Techno from Melbourne and beyond.

Matrixxman and Setaoc Mass have announced their new collaborative project via Figure Records in the form of a brand new EP – titled Pitch Black.

With an unrelentingly fast pace from beginning to end, Pitch Black screams Matrixxman and Setaoc Mass’ sonic characteristics in a delightful balance between modern and classic. If this initial release is anything to go by, then this duo might soon prove to be one of techno’s most promising teams.

Kicking off with the vibratingly jittery and aptly titled Vortex, the duo embark on a futuristic club journey, filled with punchy kicks and groaning synths. From there, the EP enters the bleeping modular surrounds of Reckoning, where the vibrant blend of improvisation and structure is most evident. Crisp hats and a euphoric pad envelope this tracks unmappable melody, creating an incredibly exciting dancefloor weapon.

Closing the EP out are the third and fourth tracks, titled Second and Pitch Black. The former, an effort filled with delayed stabs and that uncompromising kick, where the latter carries the crisp percussion from previous tracks and adds a stinging ride cymbal. On top, monumental breakdowns and clean, spacious synths present the final track as the jewel in the crown of an excellent debut EP.

Pitch Black is available now in digital and physical forms via Figure’s Bandcamp. Listen to previews of the tracks below via the Soundcloud player.Matrixxman and Setaoc Mass have announced their new collaborative project via Figure Records in the form of a brand new EP – titled Pitch Black.
